Programme 5 of 7 · Article 5, Objective 5

Caregiver & Family Support

Helping families and volunteers provide safer, more respectful everyday care.

Our constitutional objective

Strengthen caregivers and family support.

01

The problem

Older people may rely on relatives, neighbours, or volunteers for daily support. JAF’s proposal identifies a need to strengthen the people providing that care, particularly where illness, disability, mental health concerns, or limited resources make care more demanding.

02

The gap in support

Willingness to help needs to be supported by practical knowledge. Families and volunteers may need guidance on nutrition, hygiene, respectful communication, disability inclusion, safeguarding, and recognising when professional help is required.

03

What is being done

Caregiver and family training is an explicit Article 5 programme and a defined activity in JAF’s proposed care model. Joyce Angulo’s nursing and mentorship background informs the Foundation’s approach. Completed training sessions and numbers of trained caregivers have not yet been reported for this website.

04

How JAF is closing the gap

JAF plans to train family members, community caregivers, and volunteers in basic elderly care. The programme will put dignity, safe practice, and the older person’s needs and choices at the centre of support.

Turning the response into action

JAF’s programme activities

  1. Develop practical training in basic care, nutrition, hygiene, and respectful communication.
  2. Include mental health, loneliness, dementia awareness, and disability inclusion.
  3. Build understanding of safeguarding and prevention of abuse or neglect.
  4. Help caregivers recognise concerns that require referral to qualified services.

What this programme aims to change

Families and volunteers are better equipped to provide respectful, safe care and seek help when needed.

How progress will be tracked

  • Caregivers and volunteers trained
  • Training sessions completed
  • Participant feedback and learning needs
  • Follow-up support needs identified

These are intended outcomes and proposed monitoring measures, not reported results.

A little care can mean
